Greetings,
We, the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian national institutions and parties, convened in the city of Dohuk–Nohadra and, with a spirit of national responsibility, discussed the establishment of a monument for Assyrian Martyrs Day in the city of Simele. This monument will include a statue commemorating the Assyrian martyr, serving as a place for the annual memorial of the martyrs of our Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people.
We have decided to work together, and in coordination with our institutions in the diaspora, to accomplish this long-awaited project.
A committee with diverse specializations, technical, engineering, financial, and legal, will be formed, including members from both the homeland and the diaspora. This committee will undertake the following tasks:
- Conduct a field visit to the land allocated for the monument in Simele by the governorate in 2019.
- Secure sufficient funds for construction by establishing a dedicated fund that will receive donations from institutions and individuals in the homeland and diaspora, according to their capacities.
- Launch a competition for the best design, to be chosen by our people after displaying the competing designs for public voting on well-known social media platforms.
- Obtain official approvals if required.
- Contract with any individual or entity, whether technical, engineering, advisory, or legal, if necessary to accomplish the project.
- Complete the monument before Assyrian Martyrs Day 2026 so it is ready for commemorating the martyrs.
Another meeting will be held soon to further develop the matter. Until then, the door remains open for any national institution or party in the homeland to join this national effort.
