We are pleased to extend to our Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people, in the homeland and throughout the diaspora, our warmest congratulations and sincerest best wishes on the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year 6776. We pray that this blessed occasion may lead in a year of goodness, peace, and stability, and bring with it the glad tidings of hope and renewal for our people and for all the people of our homeland, Iraq.
Our people’s celebration of this ancient national feast on the first of April each year embodies the depth of their civilizational belonging, stretching back thousands of years, and reaffirms their attachment to their deeply rooted historical identity since the civilizations of Babylon and Assyria. With the coming of spring, the meanings of life and renewal are revived, and the journey of perseverance continues despite all the hardships and challenges our people have endured throughout history.
As we mark this precious occasion, our region is passing through sensitive circumstances and rapid developments, particularly the consequences of the ongoing war involving Iran, which cast a shadow over Iraq politically, security-wise, and economically. Concerns are mounting over the possibility of an expansion of tension and the direct consequences that may follow for the country’s stability, the daily lives of citizens, their safety and security, as well as the economic pressures and challenges of living conditions.
Out of our national responsibility and our concern for the safety of our people, and in view of these exceptional circumstances, it has been decided to cancel the large-scale public celebrations of this occasion, in order to avoid any potential risks and to preserve public security.
On this occasion, we call upon our Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people to mark the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year in their homes, villages, and local communities, in a spirit of responsibility and awareness, and in a manner befitting the dignity of this ancient feast. We affirm that adherence to our civilizational and cultural heritage is not confined solely to large public celebrations, but is also expressed through preserving our identity and strengthening our values and heritage at all times and in all places.
We also affirm on this occasion the importance of giving priority to the language of reason and wisdom, working to keep Iraq away from the conflicts of the region, strengthening the authority of the state, protecting the security of citizens, and preserving internal stability, in a way that guarantees a safe future for all Iraqis.
Our dear people,
On this occasion, we renew our promise to continue the legitimate and peaceful struggle to safeguard our national and patriotic rights and to ensure a dignified life for our people in their historical homeland, within the framework of a just state that guarantees rights and freedoms for all its components without discrimination.
In conclusion, we renew our heartfelt congratulations to our people everywhere, and to the Iraqi people as a whole, on the occasion of the
Babylonian-Assyrian New Year 6776.
Wishing you all a blessed and happy new year.
