(Clarification)

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, March 13, 2024, the military checkpoint located in the Bakrman area, affiliated with the Kurdistan Region government, prevented the residents of the villages of the Nahla Assyrian area from transporting agricultural fertilizers and food supplies for their daily needs to their villages, despite obtaining all approvals from the official authorities in the Aqrah district for this purpose.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that this checkpoint has engaged in such practices and open, direct hostility against the residents of the area.

After more than five hours of waiting by the residents at the checkpoint and numerous contacts with party and governmental authorities, the residents were eventually allowed to pass with their agricultural supplies.

We would like to point out and remind that a previous agreement was reached between the residents of the area, with the presence of political, religious, and community figures, as well as the director of Asayish in the Aqrah district, a few months ago. It was agreed upon not to harass the residents and to facilitate their passage by the checkpoint. However, all this did not prevent the residents of the area from being subjected to these practices.

Therefore, we call on the Minister of Interior to intervene and find a suitable solution to this matter, which is beginning to escalate towards further tension in the region due to irresponsible individual actions by those in charge of the checkpoint, and to put an end to it as it contradicts the concepts of coexistence and harmony among the components of the region.
