We will niether support nor vote for any candidate for the quota seats in the KRG elections
A meeting was held at the political bureau headquarter of Bet Nahrian Party in Erbil-Ankawa.
The heads of the five national parties attended to discuss various issues concerning the rights of the Assyrian-Chaldean community, particularly in light of the ongoing operations and changes in the Middle East and their negative impact on neighboring countries, including Iraq.
The meeting also addressed various issues concerning the activation of joint national efforts among the five parties, aiming for a unified program that guides their struggle to achieve our nation’s legitimate right goals and aspirations while confronting challenges and addressing upcoming needs.
The meeting addressed the situation of our people in the Nineveh Plain, emphasizing the need for a legal framework that safeguards the rights of the region’s constituents and protects their lands from demographic changes that threaten the area’s identity. The communities affirmed their right to establish the Nineveh Plain Governorate and called for the implementation of the Cabinet of Ministers’ decision from January 21, 2014, which approved this initiative. This would enable the region’s residents to maintain their national and religious identity and manage their own affairs in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.
During the meeting, participants discussed the current security and political situation in neighboring countries, Iraq, and the broader region, highlighting the risks posed by the escalating conflict between The Israeli entity, Hamas, and Hezbollah. There are concerns that this could escalate into a regional war with unpredictable consequences. The meeting urged the Iraqi government to control the weapons of armed factions to prevent Iraq from being drawn into a conflict without national consensus or popular support, which could lead to significant suffering and disasters for the homeland and its citizens.
The meeting also addressed the upcoming elections for the Kurdistan Region’s parliament, set for October 20th, reaffirming the previous stance of the five parties against supporting any candidates for the special quota seats. The participants rejected the imposed political reality that distorts the true interests of our people and their legitimate political powers, criticizing the flawed electoral law that fails to reflect the region’s demographic reality, and the control exerted by the parties over the will of our people.
In conclusion, the meeting underscored the importance of strengthening and sustaining joint national efforts, prioritizing the interests of our Assyrian-Chaldean-Syriac people above all other matters. Participants expressed their readiness to confront upcoming challenges with a unified national spirit and collective determination, united by a common goal.
